THE SOUTHPORT PARTY IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT.
WE HAVE NO CONNECTION WITH
ANY OTHER POLITICAL PARTY.
WE WORK ONLY IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF SOUTHPORT.
This is why so many current Southport-elected Councillors and their supporters
treat us with such total contempt!
WE support Southport - THEY support Sefton!
See a splendid example of this: HERE.

WE would like to know why we are all being kept in the dark about this. That is why we would like Sefton Council to offer us an explanation and give us the CHOICE of whether this situation should continue. |

It appears that The Southport Party does not follow the traditional practice of the longer-established National Political parties of deceiving the public as a matter of course. They have scores of years of experience in their despicable Black Magic skills; we prefer to believe that the public wants to know the REAL truth. Here are a few recent interesting examples that may go some way to explaining why THIS party is so often accused of total negativity towards Sefton Council and its current lineup of Councillors:- (1)The prospective Tory candidate for Kew Ward says he will spend all his "Salary", if elected in May, on supporting the objectors to the development of land at Kew. How can he do this when the Tories SUPPORT the development? (2) Liberal Democrat Councillor Maureen Fearn implies that the Arriva bus route along Westmoreland Road is to be rerouted elsewhere as a result of her presenting the petition from the residents of this road to the bus operators. (3) The Southport Party organises a protest against the closure of Manor Road Post Office, inviting many of the locals and with the full knowledge and approval of the postmaster. The picture taken by the Southport Visiter photographer is of the ENTIRE crowd of about 58 people. The picture taken by the uninvited and unwelcome LibDems troublemaker, Tony Dawson, was cropped down by him to exclude all Southport Party members and show more prominently a single uninvited LibDem Councillor. Can you spot the difference? SCENE AS SUBMITTED TO THE CHAMPION BY THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS: Would you prefer to hear the politically-biased and hypocritical propaganda of others? |

You have told us that the problem with the revised refuse collection service is NOT the wheelie bins themselves or the need for recycling—rather, it is with the system itself. Sefton's Liberal Democrat Environment Cabinet Member says in the Southport Champion, 3rd October 2007: "It simply isn't correct that 'more and more' councils are abandoning alternate week rubbish collection.......only a handful have reverted back...". He does not, however, seem prepared to defend this statement when is is pointed out to him in the Southport Champion, 10th October, that this so-called "handful" now numbers rather more than the 1 or 2 he implies. But this is far from being the first occasion we have heard Seftonised "facts" that are not exactly true. |

COUNCILLORS' CODE OF CONDUCT |
|||||||
All Southport Councillors are subject to a Code of Conduct, full details of which are given on the Sefton Council website. We have also recently reported Liberal Democrat Councillor Fred Weavers to the Legal Director for his alleged unwarranted comments to a Kew Ward resident (Southport Visiter, 26th October 2007) when he was reported as saying "So, you're the troublemaker, are you?" We believe he also called her "selfish". This is no way for elected councillors to behave. We say they are unworthy representatives of this town and should be replaced by those more concerned with the good of this town rather than their own personal agenda or vendetta. |

HOUSING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AT KEW |
|||||||
Sefton is about to embark on an ambitious development of many hectares of land at Kew, featuring houses and business units - full details can be found on their web site here. Nobody should be left unaware of reality re the situation at Kew, however, and the hypocrisy shown so often by so many of our current elected represetatives:- |

Unlike ALL the other parties, we in The Southport Party continue with our efforts to have Sefton Council abolished and replaced with Local Authority areas that actually make sense. It must be perfectly obvious to every Southport resident now, that the chances of this happening on the instigation of any existing 'Seftonised' Councillors of any other party is precisely ZERO!!!
The Conservatives created this grievance when they took Southport into Sefton in 1974 - WITHOUT A REFERENDUM! As several of our existing Liberal Democrat Councillors and even our Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament's assistant have great difficulty in understanding where Southport actually is, let us explain:- Southport starts at Crossens and extends to Ainsdale. It is comprised of the 7 Wards of Ainsdale, Birkdale, Cambridge, Dukes, Kew, Norwood and Meols. |

THE SOUTHPORT PARTY created the CARES Hospital Pressure Group in 2003 when WE hired the room at Holy Trinity Church and invited ALL local Political Parties to participate, in the interests of the town of Southport. Initially, all seemed prepared to do so. Our then Chairman, Dick Chapman, acted as the chairman until the new group had been formed, at which stage he handed the reigns over to the newly elected chair. And now it seems that this 4 years of hard work has actually paid off. During this time The Southport Party’s Margaret Brown, working in conjunction with CARES, has held numerous meetings with the Primary Care Trusts.
Their new Chief Executive, Leigh Griffin has now, at last, recognised that the health of Southport’s children is currently inadequately served.
There is, he says, potential for enhanced emergency services and healthcare for our children right here, in Southport. It’s not the return of a full children’s A&E, but it is a step in the right direction. |

Sefton's second vote on Housing Transfer - "one of the most shameful incidences of electoral abuse in the history of local government" When a Councillor (The Mayor of Sefton) is accused of illegal actions, then he remains in post and has his day in court to have his case heard in the traditional British manner - that is fair - "innocent until proven guilty". |

We are vindicated again - Gormley statues cost us £30,000 in year 2005/2006 out of our Council Tax and £45,000 in 2007/2007 - as verified in Council Minutes. |

During the last few years the press officers of the Council have persuaded the local newspapers to produce an endless stream of 'good' news every week. It is therefore difficult to persuade the electorate of Southport that this party has any further roll to play on Sefton Council. Perhaps you have been convinced by this propaganda or perhaps you remain as unconvinced as we are after seeing the reality of these spurious claims. What is the purpose in life of a press officer? - The County Borough of Southport never needed any, so why does Sefton? And how are they supposed to operate, except in the manner of rather well-paid full-time politicians?
Are you enraged, as we are, at the closure of Pleasureland, given on a 150 year rent-free lease to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for a meagre £2½ million and then bought back a few years later for £7million?
What do you think will eventually happen to our once great Market Hall after being bled dry by Sefton for the last 30 years? Is it about to be transformed, as Sefton claims, OR is it about to become another block of flats? - We understand that Sefton may have "forgotten" to include any conditions into the first sale concerning the future use of this building - just as they seem to have "forgotten" to include a clause in the Pleasureland lease that it should continue as an amusement park or the lease should be forfeited with zero compensation!
See letter from Sefton in reply to a question asked at the Southport January Area Committee.

Do you believe that Southport beach is a wonderful area of golden sands upon which numerous awards, symbolised by flags of various colours, have been righteously bestowed? |
Here is deserted Chapel Street at 2pm on the first full day of operation, Monday, 16th January 2006. |
The decision to pedestrianise Chapel Street was made in 1998, long before The Southport Party ever existed: The meeting at the Lord Street West Church on 22nd January, 2003, was merely to discuss the 2 options - partial or a full pedestrianisation. See the minutes of the meeting here. Do you believe that this pedestrianisation, if it is EVER finished, will create the extensive and beautiful shopping area promised us, free from traffic, where you can sit and watch the world go by? |
Do you believe that the existing Southport councillors really had the interests of this town in mind when the majority of them engaged in disgraceful antics shortly after the 2004 local elections, when they proposed to close or amalgamate 3 local schools?
Or do you believe that was some sort of agreement was entered into, whereby the majority of Southport Councillors agreed to vote for these closures if the Councillors from the south of the Borough agreed to vote for the closure of some of their schools - and that they were forced to keep the Southport schools open due to strong campaigns and political pressure, e.g. they may lose some seats to this party in 2006?
The Southport Party strongly believe that it was wrong even to suggest the closure of these schools and that justice was served when they were allowed to stay open.

We also believe that the closure of Ainsdale High School has provided all sorts of possibilities regarding the future use of the land and buildings which Sefton Council could adopt if only they had a more positive attitude to the situation. Ex-Councillor David Cobham has publicised what could be done to provide much-needed sports and recreational facilities there. Sefton ignores our pleas. Here are some of the protestors to the closure of the school on their march along Lord Street on 10th December 2005. |
It also seems very strange that during the 2006 budget process, the Liberal Democrats voted with the Conservatives for the closure of several important services in the south of Sefton including a popular leisure centre and a community centre, when both of these parties have little support in that area. Perhaps the real reasons for doing this will be made public one day.
We now wonder what can have happened in 2007 when all 3 other parties agreed, for the first time in living memory and seemingly without any arguments, on what measures were necessary to produce a legal budget.
