| Since its creation in 2002, our Party has continuously monitored ‘2 star rated’ Sefton Council when it comes to running the affairs of this town.
Our independence from national political parties and freedom from seftonisation enables us to really concentrate on our townsfolk’s concerns in protecting Southport from a stifling and expensive bureaucracy.
While supporting some improvements that we’ve managed to squeeze out of the administration, we also continue to identify their shortcomings by keeping residents fully informed of any mismanagement involving ‘crackpot’ schemes. On numerous occasions we have highlighted these as a waste of public money in our Press Releases and letters to the local papers.
For instance, our campaigning has forced a review of the ‘sloppy’ way that the Southport Single Area Committee has been poorly run since its conception in 2004. So our COUCILWATCH plays a key roll in keeping tabs on such inefficiency and continues the fight to drive up council standards by a regular coverage of their activities. We intend to persist with these endeavours by encouraging Sefton to ‘pull its socks up’ and hopefully achieve a 4 star rating when the Government’s independent Audit Commission next pays a visit.
Such a clumsy administration as Sefton only has itself to blame when, after 32 years, it has just managed, rather pathetically, to get a rating of a mere 2 stars for the second year running. Wallowing for decades in the reporting doldrums, whilst many other councils are judged as highly efficient authorities, is no way for Southport to be run. We have had to suffer this kind of slack administration for far too many years.
Perhaps Sefton Council would like to tell us all, in a definitive way, the reasons for remaining so far behind other ‘4 star scoring’ authorities, some of which even receive an accolade of excellence as an additional award?
