We refer to the article in the Southport Visiter of 21st October 2005 reporting on The Southport Party’s 2000 signature petition complaining about the numerous grot spots and the lack of public toilet provision in Southport.
Our petition requested “that Sefton Council should rid Southport of its many grot spots, including the Marine Lake area, improve toilet provision and introduce a regular, co-ordinated and effective cleansing programme that befits a genuine Classic Resort.”
We feel the response from Councillor Tattersall claiming that the Council was blameless, was totally inadequate. It ignores the obvious neglect of the rat-infested Kings Gardens, the wooden bridge and walkways around the lake and claims that the Council is not responsible for cleaning the Marine Lake.
Our years of experience show his response to be a typical red herring trying to deflect attention from the bigger picture of inadequate cleansing and the failure to fulfil the years of promises made to provide the top class public conveniences that this town could be proud of.
2000 residents and visitors signed the petition, so we think it is about time these lame and unconvincing excuses are ended and the people who put the money into the council coffers via Council Tax and parking fees are listened to.
