The news in our local newspapers that the redevelopment of Chapel St into a pedestrianised area has been brought to a halt just weeks prior to commencment leaves this Party in utter amazment at the continued inefficiency of Sefton Council. We had every right to expect that important lessons would have been learned during the fiasco of Nevill St this year with its overrun of 3 months together with the poor quality of the workmanship. Are those who have overall charge of these major developments going to be held to account for not ensuring that the finances were in place before the work was to commence? In the view of this Party, those officers who have fallen so far below any acceptable standards should be dismissed, as should the managers who have allowed this culture of perpetually recurring failure to develop.
These are questions that this Party demands answers to:
- Now that this, the latest high profile failure of Sefton Council to hit Southport, has occurred, what actions are our Southport Councillors going to take?
- When do they propose to call for changes to be made in the way that Council Departments operate?
- Who is holding the Cabinet Members and Directors of Departments accountable?
- With the announcement that the Pedestrianisation will still go ahead, where is the shortfall of 1.5 million pounds to come from?
