There was a seismic change in local politics when our party won 3 council seats in 2002 – since that time Sefton Council has finally ‘pulled up its socks’ about the care of Southport and its residents. Even prominent politicians from the other parties have admitted this to some of our members as they alerted their activists to greater efforts in any future local elections.
Now some 36 months later, although The Southport Party was NOT involved in the recent General Election, nevertheless, we will continue to fight for an improved and honest electoral system, free from the fraudulent opportunities that currently exist. Hence we continue our correspondence with The Electoral Commission and contribute to its suggested reforms. Our internet press releases are also covering this current issue.
On a lighter note, the party recently held its third Annual General Meeting, where Stuart Taylor was elected as our chairman and ex-councillor Margaret Brown became his deputy. Veteran Southport campaigner Bryan Naylor again kept his position as Press Officer and so did John Lee who has been re-elected as Party Treasurer.
The photograph enclosed was recently taken at Dr. Jim Ford’s house and garden where a very successful fundraising coffee morning took place attended by many of our members and their guests. The exceptionally sunny day augured well for the party to continue campaigning for Southport to again run its own affairs and away from the ‘ North Seftonisation ’ of our town that is currently sneaking in under the existing dogmatic and monolithic administration.
