The abysmal state of Southport 's public toilets after more than 30 years of neglect by Sefton Council has now reached rock bottom. This ‘no money for public toilets' administration spent £2.7million on CONSULTANCY FEES and collects nearly £2million a year from the resort's CAR PARKING FEES, yet thinks it impossible to find £1million to improve the town's public toilets; thus coming in line with not only the new Disability Discrimination Act but also matching their grandiose idea of a Classic Resort image for Southport. The Council says that money cannot be ring-fenced for special projects such as public toilet refurbishment yet ignored this fact on the following occasions: Increased Municipal golfing fees were used for course improvements. Beach cable laying income was used to help with the cost of relocating the shoreline administration block from Formby to Ainsdale. Land sales of Council property in Formby are helping to finance the new local swimming pool project. Even as we speak £5million is mentioned as Sefton Council match money for the Aquadome to complete of the Ocean Plaza project. So isn't it time Southport ‘ring-fenced £1million' from the town's ever-increasing parking fees income so as to upgrade our TATTY public toilet image? (Sorry Councillor, no pun intended.) |
