| 1st October 2004 | Southport Beach Access for the Disabled. |
Sefton's Cabinet Minister for Leisure and Tourism, Lord Fearn, recently stated “it is vital that the resort's tourism operators sit up and take notice of the changes and new implications of the Disability Discrimination Act that take effect from 1 st October 2004 .” With the threat of facing fines and even a spell in prison if the Act is ignored, Sefton Council should now be opening the beach access in winter to the disabled and their families so that they can once again enjoy the sea air and winter sunshine away from the cold winds and in the comfort of their own cars. It would be even better if the vague and unnecessary winter beach closure could be abandoned altogether in the name of common sense to enhance Southport 's off-season tourist attractions. |
