| 24th September 2004 | Southport Single Area Committee. |
At the first Single Area Committee meeting in July 2004, we complained about the lack of advance publicity given to it by the Council. Considering that the people of Southport were asked recently to vote in a referendum (at a cost of £30,000+) for the creation of this Committee, you would have thought that this effort and exercise of democracy would have spurred the Council into giving ample information to residents about where and when these meetings take place. The Council admitted that there had been a serious oversight and they stated categorically that there would be plenty of advance notice and publicity in future. Your Single Area Committee meetings are held in the Southport Town Hall at 6.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is on 6 th October 2004 . The Southport Party is pleased that this error will be addressed and that residents' rights in contributing to the full democratic process can be exercised at future meetings. |
